...For Thanksgiving, my friend James brought over his projector & hooked it up for the family to enjoy the giant wall of fun...




...Nick was like a kid in a candy store with all that football. Mesmerized, he sat transfixed for three days, requiring little food, water, or sleep until at last, James came & took the fun projector away, releasing him from the wonderful, gigantic Football-Teleprison-Fun-House...




...Nick's vitals are back to normal, with the return of his familiar 3-7 inched players in the television screen. We now know the power of cones and rods extends far past the human eye... :-)

Our wonderful friends, the Gaudette family, brought Nicholas and Tallon with them to watch the Harlem Globe Trotter's perform tricks, last Monday in Salt Lake. They even got to ride the Front Runner train to get there!

While away, Dallin Gaudette was so, so sweet to send me updates. Because it happened to also be Tallon's *12th* birthday, and I was also (still) under the weather.

Snowed On Again!

At our house, we try to make R-E-A-L snow men. We started by rolling Jordan, and his friend Chase, in the snow, for 12 minutes. They both ate a carrot (for their nose) and held sticks for arms (but ended up in a stick fight). Later, we took their picture while singing, "Once there was a snowman, snowman, snowman..." and it was all very cozy, and sweet, and just... what's the word... Fairytale-ish!!!
Yah, OK, so maybe it didn't happen EXACTLY that way. Maybe they just walked in and I took their snowy headed picture.
But you must admit, the first bit was a way better story...?! :-)

Nicholas' painting hand was featured in the Standard Examiner today, in the GO! section, under the article entitled, "Santa's Posse".

The caption under the picture read, "Nick Romero, 14, a student at North Ogden Jr. High School, paints a Christmas project on Tuesday."

Nicholas and his class have been busy making Christmas ornaments to raise money for their Manufacturing Class, which will sell these handmade works of art at the Ogden Union Station on December 9th & 13th. Please come!!

"Soulments"

Life is made up of moments.

A good life - is made up of "Soulments."

Soulments are those beautiful, livable, breathable, enduring moments in which your soul takes in a deep drink, and says, "Ahhhhh."

Tonight we had some beautiful and happy soulments. We hung up autumn, Halloween, and Thanksgiving decorations. We made dinner together. We sang silly songs.

"Ahhhhh," said my soul.

So often- too often, really- I hurry along to the next important moment. When I do this, I find I miss out on the sweetness within the journey along the way.

It's there, isn't it? There, in my Sariah's laugh, in her placement of her cardboard pumpkins in the frame of the window.

In the way Nick fixed our tape dispenser so we could carry on, unhindered, taping away like a family electrified.

It was in Nicholas' eyes as he helped boil the potatoes for dinner, while humming.

In Jordans cheerful grin, while telling me he has a YouTube video he wanted me to watch, before he headed off to work.

In Tallon's desire to bake cookies: an edible soulment of the evening festivities.

In Chambre's warm visit today, between her two shifts at Chili's.

As we rummaged through decorations, we came across a little paper scarecrow which a child's hands had made. The eyes had worn away, but it was still beautiful. On the back, in a soulment we no longer remember, I had written, "Chambre - 1996" before placing it in the box, ever so carefully.

1996 was 12 years ago, when Chambre was only 8. We lived in Arizona, and she was in third grade, learning cursive...

...and making sweet, colorful scarecrows...

...And, tiny soulments which brought clear, innocent happiness in the day she created it, as well as another soulment for our future.

Which future, came today.

So, this blog is to beautiful soulments, wherever I- or you- may find them, meet, or make them.

And to the art of capturing and inhaling them in such a way that they make us grow, keep us whole, and fill our souls.

May this blog be either: another one, or inspiration for some more along the journey of today..

And may your heart be filled forever with beautiful, eternal, forever-filled, peaceful, joyful...

Yesterday, while playing football, Tallon's chin met the tooth of his friend, Oscar, which necessitated - ONE - suture. We took this video of Tallon while he was waiting to see the Doctor (it was a long wait, we entertained ourselves).

Be it known that even though it was only one stitch, and two shots (one in each arm), it still took as long as if he had needed more. :-)

At any rate, we are so grateful to those who took care of him and made sure he was well and put back together (sans mouth-germs).

I went to work afterward, but have been battling a virus or something. So, it was not our most favorite day ever.

But, we ended on a good note and today was spent recovering!

This was a wonderful, busy, yet relaxing week. Going into the first week of October, it's so warm yet with crisp and fragile spats of chilliness, with warnings of the cold to come, sneaking through.

This week:

SARIAH (1st grade) learned how to spell: computer, book, backpack, scissors, crayons, school bus, pencil, and paper. I, Mum, am sad knowing this is her very LAST MONTH EVER, ever, ever to be 6-years old again. Ever. Ever, ever. (sniff! sniff!) SARIAH DON'T GROWWWW UPPPP!!!!! Stay 6 FOREVERRRRR!! (yes, I do this with each one, but she is the last of them all, so I feel each milestone like a pebble in my metaphorical shoe...)

TALLON ended football practice with an award ceremony in the park on Monday night. He had a blast and wants to play again next year! Also, it's midterm: ALL A'S & B'S!!! He plays football each night in the Birch's front yard (Thank you Sue & Larry!!) Tallon you're like a warm, gooey hot fudge sundae to us!!!!

NICHOLAS is headed to Lagoon tonight with his buddy, Nick Buck. ALso, we had his Parent Teacher Conference. ALL A'S AND B'S AT MIDTERM!! He is soooo funny!!! Even his Foods teacher adores him. He is a sunshine!!!! And fun! And cheeriness!!

JORDAN started Drivers Ed this week, even though he's been driving with his permit since the spring or summer. He's added that class to his normal 8-class schedule (which includes 2 college classes), and his 2 online classes, plus his work schedule. Needless to say, he had to scale back on working so much... (oh! nearly ALL A'S AT MIDTERM!!!) Jordan, you ROCK!!!

CHAMBRE came over several times to visit this week. She even got a warm visit with Kim White (who is Liza's Visiting Teacher). It was splendid! On the downside, she was pulled over twice in the same week for erroneous reasons (really, and no tickets) but it scared her nonetheless. :-D On the upside, she's all moved in at Torie & Greg's house, working every day, paying her bills, and being a fancy adult. GO CHAMBRE!!!!!!!!

LIZA got a much needed haircut this week, finally ended her sleep-deprived status, and nearly finished an AMAZING book: The Story of YOU, by Richard Chandler, which was wonderful. It's hard to blog out accomplishments when you know they consist mainly of things like, managed the household empire, attempted to hold to our schedule, successfully contained all belongings to WITHIN the walls of the castle, and slayed a Bad-Mood-Dragon before it had a chance to level us with one fiery breath....

NICK delivered nearly 400 packages of all sizes, daily, to approximately 150 places in Layton. Though he did not get to have lunch once this week with his bride, still they did text lots of love notes and phone calls back and forth, especially fun since this means there's still much to say to one another after 18 years! He also dismantled the basketball hoop for Liza! Yay!

Other noteworthy items:

* A delicious pot roast was cooked in the pressure cooker (4.5 pounds) in roughly 40 minutes. LOVE IT!!! This reduced our dinner time by 2 or 3 hours.

* We managed to read from Alma in the Book of Mormon (expounding as we went) four nights in a row now. We are very proud of our family!!!

And now, our brief time is over, so we shall send this from the sturdy cell phone, and call it an update!

Friends, Fame, and Glory

Today we're blogging because we're celebrating Tallon's last game of the season! Yaaay, Tallon!!! They played Bear River and the score was 6-0, in favor of Bear River. BUT. Winning isn't everything...
FAMILY is everything... and we were fortunate enough to have BOTH of Liza's parents come out to see Tallon's last game. Here, a few pictures of Tallon with Liza's Mom and her step-dad... :)

...and as soon as the pictures with Liza's Dad and her step-mom get emailed, we'll post those two (but you can see his little head above Tallon's shoulder...) :) A few extra pictures of Liza, Charlotte (her Mom), and Liza's Soul-Sister, Natalie :) are below...

... because what are football players without cheerleaders???!!!

We hope that the children, above all, are learning about sportsmanship, teamwork, individual contributions, integrity, achievement, a sense of satisfaction, spirit, and happiness throughout all of these games and practices. We love that everyone goes to the game to cheer on ONE person in the family. We love that it's all for one, and one for all. We appreciate all the time that everyone has put into helping our children get into the spots they are in, within each of their lives. It is such a joyful journey!!!

Friends are becoming more and more fun to gather (as with Miss Natalie, above!). Nick grew up in a place where he had life log friendships created, and even to this day, he knows them still and talks to them and we visit a few of them. Liza... not so much. This is the LONGEST we have ever stayed in one area at a time. That the children are building a sense of themselves, and their peers, and creating lasting bonds and friendships is a priceless gift we are grateful for. Staying in one place -- the beauty of it -- is that it gives you a sense of where you have been, and where you are. Like marking your ever growing height, year after year, on a measuring stick. It shows you where you're going next, where you were same time last year, and where you are now.

If you move very much, in order to see where you've been, you must drive clear across town (or state). You must locate the apartment, and often in apartments, everyone is in some sort of flux or transition anyway, so you lose each other over time, more easily (possibly).

We love our neighbors, our neighborhood, our ward, our friends, and FAMILY, and everyone who ever we are blessed to know. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!! For growing up... with us :)

Faithful Fan...

Ah, grandparents!!!

Often times, they are our most ardent fans, and this is SURELY the case when it comes to Nick's dad coming out to see Tallon's football games.

For the second year in a row, his Dad has managed to attend nearly all of the football games Tallon has played in. He also tries to attend every game the other kids are in, when they're playing basketball, baseball, etc., or in a play, etc.

This weekend, was no exception, and afterward, we all went over to El Rancherito for some delicious Mexican food, followed by a very long NAP (not at the restaurant, silly, AT HOME) :-D

True enough, it did rain on us a bit at the game. My friend Natalie, had to empty her purse of the water which accumulated in it, and found her little bag of candies turning into nothing more than wet sugar next to her lipstick... our chairs soaked, still we managed to cheer for Tallon and his team. It was much, much fun...

We spent some time throwing the football around over the weekend and it was just a ton of fun (when it wasn't raining).

Each day that Jordan works, though, we wonder how he will possibly be able to keep up this pace. He has online homework (from credits he missed), regular homework and college AP classes, a play coming up, drivers education classes, scouts, and work. He's working toward earning enough merit badges to become a Life Scout as well as earning his way to becoming an Eagle Scout.

All of this means a lot of work for Jordan, but mainly synchronising things to work together for him.

Harmony is everything.

Tomorrow night, Nicholas has a Scouting Court of Honor, and Liza managed to get the night off of work to attend it. Hopefully, it all goes into the jar of moments which end up writing the Happy Book of You :) (well, Happy Book of Nicholas, in this case)...

SO... AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW, I, Liza Romero, am always on the lookout for a good read!!! There are endless resources for reading and entertainment, and the internet is like an ocean of information as well. You can get sucked into the undertow, and before you know it, you've spent more time studying something you don't much even agree with, or even like (celebrity gossip, for instance), and there you are. Knowing this, imagine my surprise when one of my favorite websites (which also sends me newsletters): John Strelecky's, "Why Cafe" (http://www.whycafe.com/), sent me an email with a link to another website, and I actually went there AND LIKED IT. Okay, I don't just LIKE IT??

I L-O-V-E IT!!!!

The website is Tim Brownson's, "A Daring Adventure" (http://www.ADaringAdventure.com/) and if you start with his blog, you'll probably love it too. HE IS SOOOOOO MUCH FUN TO READ!!!

His style is delivering profound (sometimes especially so because it's so obviously true) insights designed to help us be happy, revamp our views, and basically enlarge our ever-so-cozy comfort zone in a humorous fashion. I was laughing my fanny right off. He is BRILLIANT. My top favorite reads today included:

OH! WE ALMOST FORGOT!

Sunday came around, and with it, the usual fun things... church, meetings, friends, spirit. All things good and RIGHT! Liza's Dad invited everyone to a "Fireside" at the Hale Theater in Salt Lake City. But, before we could leave, we had time to snap some pictures for fun, while waiting for Dad to come home from sorting out all the financials for our ward... so here they are!

Delicious, Desirable, Distinctive Week!!

Ever since football season started up, as you well know, we've spent weeknights at the park for Tallon's practices, where Sariah runs, plays with friends, makes huts, plays house, runs and rolls down the hills. Dad coaches and encourages Tallon and his team. Nick, Jordan, and Liza cheer for Tallon, the Warriors, and Dad, and help Sariah and her friends plot a new theme for their playing-house-in-the-park episodes... NATURALLY, this week was filled up with lots of that.

However, this week also brought more changes!!!! Like....

THIS:

...is Benji, one of the MOST loved managers OF ALL TIME (Liza, Chambre, and Jordan's Manager), and this past week, he transferred away from (our) lovely store and headed up into his own neck of the woods, forever!!! We will miss him more than he thinks!!! WE'RE WISHING HIM BEST OF LUCK IN ALL HIS NEW ENDEAVORS!!!

IT ISN'T THAT I JUST HAD MY MOLARS PULLED AND NOW MY FACE IS PUFFY.

IT'S A PUFFY CRISPER YOU SEE STUFFED INTO MY LITTLE CHICKEN CHEEKS...

(Sharpie Marker on Benny's head....) ... His leaving also brought in a new Manager, from California, though, which has already proven to be exciting and we think he'll be just AMAZING!!!
A few days after the sadness of Ben leaving, and the excitement of getting a new manager wore off, we all enjoyed an early morning work meeting:

It was fun and all three of us (Chambre, Jordan, and Liza) attended, but poor Chambre had to work two shifts- in addition to the meeting- so she ended up being there from 8 in the morning until 12:30 midnight!! GOOOOOOO CHAMBREEEEE!!!!!!! Chambre and Jordan (right side) watching VERY EXCITING information come through the pipes...
Immediately following the meeting, we all whisked over to watch Tallon work his magic as a linebacker for the Warriors.

Tallon has excellent blocking skills. He runs right in there and grabs his opponent with all his strength and down he goes! All the boys are strong, and incredible! It's amazing how fearless one becomes while sporting thick pads which make one look and feel 3 x larger size!!! This past Saturday's game was against Plain City, and though we didn't win, the Warriors all executed their plays beautifully, and tried their best.
Gooooooooooo #40 - ROMERO!!!

Most Saturdays, after watching and cheering for Tallon, there's another football team we all take turns cheering for: BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY COUGARS!!!!

Though it's a 2 hour drive (in each direction), and though the game itself be 4 hours long, and even though Nick and his friend Myron add an extra hour (or 2) to that drive to the game... STILL, LIZA, BEING THE FOOTBALL WIFE THAT SHE HAS BECOME..... loves the game!!!!

It could be because Nick feeds her snacks, but really, it's the sounds, the clean atmosphere, the team spirit which ensnares her. And being with the ones she loves... Oh! And she's found a player who reminds her of Tallon: Linebacker #43, David Nixon His ability to include the fans in the game, and encourage his teammates, coupled with his aggressive and complete plays on the field are impressive and so much fun to watch!!!

First Day of School!!!

Well it's a few minutes before the school bus comes around to gather up the children, and already, it's been a fun morning. We all woke up and got to start our day with Dad's prayer, and a bowl of oatmeal (we love oatmeal!!). I can hear Sariah singing a song somewhere in the house and Tallon is emptying the dishwasher, as he's already ready... Just wanted to update you :) GOOD MORNING, BIG FAT WORLD!!!

Today was Tallon's first game. He made a TON of tackles and his team tried hard and played well. However, it wasn't enough to beat the opposing team from Layton, as the final score was 33 to 0, Layton. Today is Friday, August 15, 2008, and we had a busy day!! In addition to taking balloons to Liza's work to send off one of her favorite General Managers, Jake, with cheer, and making time to send our warmest wishes for him in his new store and endeavors, Tallon had TWO football practices today. This is the week where we all start getting ready again for school season to begin. Tuesday is school registration for Nick and Jordan, and school shopping as well.

We so love for the school year to begin for the kids, but miss them when they aren't home. We tend to look back over our summer and ask oursevles, "What did we accomplish as a family this summer, or, was it another year of 'More-of-The-Same'?"

Change is in the air for me, for everyone. Things are good, I am excited to begin. HOORAY... FALL IS COMING!!!

Pioneer Day & Famous Hair Cuts...

We just celebrated Pioneer Day!!! Muggy and hot, still I took a picture of the whole family together (a rare sight) cooling off after... :)

Gearing up for the event, a few of us (Sariah, Tallon, Nicholas, Jordan) went under the knife (OK, scissors) for some shearing up (shoring up). We try to be fancy as often as possible...

...And, honestly, doesn't Tallon *sort of* resemble Robert Downey Jr?

And Nicholas look *kind of* like Kirk Cameron?

I'd tell you Nick *resembles* Al Pacino in his early days (as in, The Godfather) but you'll probably start gagging and denying it (nobody in the family except for Chambre and I think my match-up's are even *remotely* close...

I have to post this hilarious little clip. So here's what happened: We were visiting our good friends in Idaho. I was filming Sariah and her little friend, Caleb, as they meandered through a stream in the yard. Without warning, the battery compartment threatened to burst open, and so without stopping, I fixed it, all the while filming the water. As I brought the camera back up, suddenly, there was Miss Sariah, all brand new. Poor 3-year old Caleb was mortified.

This video captures the innocence of youth, the horror we all feel when One Amongst Us has broken a cardinal rule (in this case,, about keeping-your-diaper-on-at-all-times)...

...and I don't want any comments back about Sariah's little "boo'yah!!" dance there, at the end!!

November 9, 2001 - Hope for everyone and everything came in the smallest of packages. Sariah was born at a time when we had just moved back to Utah, and change was in the air. She also astounded the medical team as she came through singing a song on perfect key!
